So I've decided now that NHL17 is out that I will be starting up my 3rd website GM mode! This one will feature the New York Islanders and I will be running this one very similar to my previous two so if want a preview I'll link them below:

For this new Franchise mode I will be doing the owner stuff but I will not be posting frequently about certain ownership stuff such as prices and promotions and stuff. I will update you with the owner goals at the start of each year but that's about it. It will mostly follow the same system I used in my previous ones. I have not played Franchise mode yet since last year left such a bad taste in my mouth (see St.Louis GM mode) so this will be my first experience.

The goal with the Islanders is to build a cup winning team around Tavares. We have a decent group of players but Tavares deserves a cup so we must get it for him!

    Year 1 Owner Goals:

Primary: he wants 22 sell outs this year
Secondary: wants 28 wins and to sell out 75% of season tickets
    Stretch: none

So I have no idea if we can achieve these but I don't really care tbh so.

    Year 1 Lineup:

    Ladd (87) - Tavares (93) - Strome (85)
    Lee (84) - Bailey (83) - Nelson (85)
    Kulemin (83) - Grabovski (82) - Parenteau (83)
    Chimera (83) - Cizikas (82) - Clutterbuck (82)
    Prince (79) - Quine (79)

    Leddy (87) - Hamonic (88)
    Boychuk (88) - Hickey (83)
    de Haan (82) - Pulock (80)
    Aulie (78)

    Halak (85)
    Greiss (82)

    Notes:
    - I signed Keith Aulie (575k/1yr) to be our 7th dman
    - Probably not gonna make any major moves this year as on paper were pretty good. We will re-evaluate at the deadline most likely

Posting to follow. This franchise mode will be interesting, to say the least, with Dal Colle, Ho-Sang and Barzal coming, that's going to be one hell of an offense

So we're 2 weeks from the March 1st trade deadline and we're currently 32-21-2 good enough for 66 points and 3rd in our division. We are in the playoffs by 7 points so we're looking decent. We're doing well in GF and GA so really I might stand pat at the deadline. Might acquire some depth or maybe a bottom pairing defenceman. We will see what's available.

So at the end of year 1 we finished 47-31-4 good enough for 98 points and 3rd place in our division, and 5th overall in the league. I did not make a deadline deal since our team was playing well. We finished the 4th best goal scoring team and 5th best goals against team so really impressed with this team so far.

Owner Goals achieved: 38 wins, 22 sell outs

    Key Statistics:
Tavares: 46 goals and 87 points in 82 games
Ladd: 65 points in 82 games
Strome: 53 points in 65 games
Lee: 51 points in 82 games
Leddy: 42 points in 82 games
    Halak: 37-26-3 with a 2.52 GAA and .915 SV%
    Greiss: 11-5-1 with a 2.16 GAA and .927 SV%

So Greiss played well and Tavares had an excellent year as he finished 3rd in the league for goals.

    AHL Key Statistics:
    Prince (81): 58 points in 74 games
    Ho-Sang (73): 47 points in 74 games
    Lessio (78): 47 points in 74 games
Dal Colle (76): 46 points in 67 games and 2 assists in 9 NHL games played (gave him a tryout when Strome was hurt)

    Round 1 vs :nyr (49-26-7)

Pulock (81) is injured and may miss all of round 1 so Aulie (79) is in the lineup

    Game 1: 2-1 loss (Strome)
Game 2: 3-2 OT win (Bailey (OT winner), Nelson, Ladd)
Game 3: 6-3 loss (Parenteau, Lee, Kulemin)
C'mon Halak we need ya buddy
Game 4: 4-2 win (Cizikas x2, Lee, Nelson)
    Pulock is back
    Game 5: 4-1 win (Bailey x3, Parenteau)
Josh Bailey with a huge hatty what a stud
Game 6: 2-1 win (Boychuk, Grabovski)

Off to Round 2!!! Character win by the boys as the Rangers were a great team and our middle six and defence won us that series. Halak had 1 bad game but otherwise was great and Lee (8 points in 6 games), Parenteau (6 points in 6 games), Nelson and Bailey (both 5 points in 6 games) all took over offensively. Tavares did nothing (2 assists, -3) so hopefully he can turn it around in round 2.

Next up Round 2 vs :pit (53-24-5)

    Round 2 vs :pit (53-24-5)

So this will be a huge test as Pittsburgh had an 111 point season so hopefully we can knock of the defending champs!

Game 1: 3-0 win (Tavares, Cizikas, Lee)
Game 2: 6-0 win (Tavares x2, Ladd, Cizikas, Leddy, Hickey)
    DAMN LOOK AT US GO
Game 3: 7-3 win (Tavares x2, Lee, Strome, Kulemin, de Haan, Grabovski)
Game 4: 5-2 win (Nelson x2, Ladd, Hickey, Hamonic)

Get out your brooms boys!!!! Unbelievable. We just swept the defending cup champs who had an 111 point season. We destroyed them too!!! Our team is just clicking on all cylinders as now Tavares and the top line is tearing it up (Tavares and Strome had 9pts in 4 games, and Ladd had 6pts in 4 games) and the secondary scoring is still there too plus we've had solid D like wow.... Off to the ECF!!

Next up Round 3 vs :tbl (47-31-4)

Damnn nice first year with the Islanders Brew. I would suggest in free agency if anyone is good to pick up a second line center would be good like a Tyler Johnson if he's available. Then having Anders Lee wouldn't be so bad.

    Offseason:

Should be a fairly quiet offseason as we just won the cup so I wanna keep the roster intact as much as possible. Grabovski could be replaced though as he is way overpaid (5m/2yrs) and we could upgrade that position. We will see.

    Draft:
30: Jesper Boqvist (med top 6 C TWF)
60: Ralph Jarratt (high AHL top 2 DFD) fuck
90: Wyatt Bear (high AHL top 6 RW PWF)
120: Tiny Tapper (low fringe starter)
147: Ryan Carlton (low bottom 6 LW GRN)
150: Petrus Palmu (med AHL top 6 RW SNP)
168: Cole Fraser (med AHL top 2 DFD)
180: Kristian Reichel (med bottom 6 C TWF)
210: Zachary Sawchenko (med AHL starter)

Not an awful draft but not great. Boqvist was a nice pick at number 30 so.

    Resigned:
    Strome (3.8m/3yrs)
    De Haan (2.3m/2yrs)
    Aulie (800k/2yrs)
    Clutterbuck (2m/2yrs)
    Parenteau (3.25m/2yrs)
    Various AHLers..

Released: Greiss (86) he jumped like crazy and I only have 1.2m in cap so I couldn't afford him...

Free agents signed: Meloche (67, low top 4 potential 19yrs old), Bracco (68, med top 9 C 20yrs old) Vehvilainen (74, med fringe starter 20yrs old)

There were no suitable backups for cheap so I'll address that at the start of the year.

    TRADES:

:car Acquire Mikhail Grabovski (83) (1.2m retained)
    :nyi Acquire Eddie Lack (81)

So this was a cap dump and filling a need in one deal and a deal that made total sense both ways. Lack was their 3rd string tendy since they signed Bishop in the offseason so Lack was expendable and he is a perfect backup for us. We lose 3.8m of Grabovskis contract (which only has 1 year left) and only gain 2.75m of Lacks (also only 1 year left) so we gain about a million more in cap. Plus Beauvillier (83) has replaced Grabovski so he is expendable.

    :edm Acquire Nikolai Kulemin (84)
:nyi Acquire Tyler Benson (71, low top 9 LW TWF 19yrs old)

So Kulemin has been replaced by Prince (83) and he was getting paid 4m so he was expendable. A little youth movement after a cup run is never a bad thing. Benson is a solid prospect we got in return as well.

    YEAR 2 LINEUP:

    Lee (84) - Bailey (83) - Nelson (85)

    ------------------------------
    Mayfield (81) - Pelech (79)

    Halak (85)
    Lack (81)

    Notes:
    - I signed Jooris (900k/2yrs) to upgrade our 13th forward and let Quine who can actually develop still play in the AHL
    - Aulie was on the Cup winning roster so he's the 7th dman but if there's ever a long term injury Mayfield will come up
    - Dal Colle and Barzal will most likely get NHL shots this year if a long term injury happens
    - Beauvillier is getting PP time over Bailey and I could swap them lines mid-season if Beauvillier grows
