I wish there'd be more real draftees. In 2018, no. 1 prospect Jake Wise...

2019, Kirby Dach and Xavier Parent..

So we're at the trade deadline and we are 31-21-9 good enough for 71 points and the second wildcard in the east.

So I'm in a tough spot because I want to make a deal to bring in a rental for many reasons. One is that Tavares keeps getting hurt so our forward core has been depleted and also just one more sick 2nd line forward could be useful. But then where is everyone else playing? Our kid third line has to stay the same because I need them to grow and they've been our most productive line (all like +15 or higher and scoring points) and Dal Colle is growing on the second line (now 85 listed as 2nd liner). So one thing that could work is moving Strome down to the second line and acquiring a stud to play top line but then I'd have to deal Nelson or Coyle because I can't play them 4th line, and I dont really want to trade either. Another option could be going for a rental goalie but honestly Halak has been so good for us and has won us a cup already, plus our D core is filthy so I rather build up the offense. I'll see what I can maneuver.

:ott Acquires Jeremy Bracco (77, med top 9 potential C PLY 21 years old), Shane Prince (83), and a 2019 2nd round pick
:nyi Acquires Derick Brassard (87, 31 years old 1yr left on deal)

So Ottawa wanted to get rid of Brassard and honestly he is the perfect 2nd line center for our playoff run. We got a decent deal for him because Prince was a sniper and really is easily replaceable and was being waste on our 4th line and Bracco is a good prospect but we have plenty of center prospects so he was expendable. Brassard is strictly a rental player though as next year Barzal should be ready for the 2nd line so we need to win with him now!!

    New Lineup:
    Ladd (87) - Tavares (94) - Strome (86)
    Dal Colle (85) - Brassard (87) - Nelson (85)
    Dvorak (82) - Barzal (84) - Beauvillier (84)
    Bailey (82) - Cizikas (83) - Coyle (84)
    Jooris (80)

    Notes:
    - right now Tavares is hurt so Brass is top line and Coyle is still second line center and Jooris is 4th line RW
    - I decided to move Coyle down because he simply hasn't done much on the second line and is more of a bottom 6/penalty killer type guy for us so hopefully he doesn't drop significantly but we will see.

So at the end of year 3 we finished 42-27-12 good enough for 98 points and the second wild card spot in the east. Our division looked like this:

    :phi 100pts
    :nj 99pts
    :nyr 98pts
    :car 98pts
    :nyi 98pts

So obviously it was insanely close and unfortunately we got the shitty spot but whatever atleast were in!

    Key stats:
Strome: 62 points in 82 games
    Barzal (85): 61 points in 77 games and +27
Beauvillier: 57 points in 82 games and +22
Tavares: 48 points in 68 games
Carlson: 47 points in 78 games
Ladd: 46 points in 82 games
Brassard: 45 points in 83 games
Dvorak: 40 points in 81 games and +22
Dal Colle: 39 points in 82 games
    Halak: 30-15-4 with a 2.31 GAA and .924 SV%
    Soderstrom: 10-13-1 with a 2.75 GAA and .907 SV%
Sundstrom (81): 69 points in 71 AHL games (leads AHL)

So obviously that kid line played great offensive and defensively so that's great news.

    In other news:
:van finished 21-57-4 good enough for 46 points
:stl Tarasenko (96) got 86 points in 82 games
:chi Kane (94) got 81 points in 82 games
:phi Giroux (92) got 78 points in 82 games
:buf Eichel (92) got 75 points in 79 games
:buf Reinhart (89) got 71 points in 79 games
:buf A Nylander (85) got 65 points in 82 games
:tml Matthews (90) got 55 points in 82 games
:edm McDavid (93) got 59 points in 82 games
:win Laine (84) got 60 points in 82 games (rookie season)
:tml Marner (87) got 43 points in 82 games (rookie season)
    :sjs Jones (89) went 39-20-3 with a 2.18 GAA and .925 SV%
    :los Quick (94) went 38-22-9 with a 1.99 GAA and a .931 SV%

Next up Round 1 vs :buf (46-27-9)

    Round 1 vs :buf (46-27-9)

    So like Starfish said....
We will be in tough against that deadly kid line in Buffalo but I have faith in our team.

Game 1: 5-2 loss (Coyle, Bailey)
Game 2: 4-2 win (Strome, Pulock, Beauvillier, Cizikas)
Game 3: 4-1 win (Dal Colle x2, Brassard, Dvorak)
Game 4: 1-0 win (Dal Colle)
Game 5: 2-0 win (Barzal, Hickey)

Holy shit JARO HALAK. This guy is unreal in the postseason. Allows 1 goal in the final 3 games and we absolutely shutdown that top line in Buffalo!! I'm telling yah I built that solid D core for a reason and it's paying off now big time. It's nice to know we can win a series without a single goal from Tavares too. Our depth really stepped up this round so hopefully the top line can do the same next round!

Next up: Round 2 vs :tbl (43-32-7)

    Round 2 vs :tbl (43-32-7)

Game 1: 3-2 OT win (Brassard (OT winner), Dal Colle, Carlson)
Game 2: 4-2 win (Dal Colle, Tavares, Coyle, Carlson)
    Game 3: 3-0 loss
Game 4: 4-3 loss (Carlson, Bailey, Tavares)
Oh shit we have a series now...
    Game 5: 4-3 loss (Ladd x2, Beauvillier)
We blew a 3-2 lead with 3:30 left in the third.....not impressed...DO OR DIE TIME LETS GO BOYS

    Game 6:
    1st period: 0-0 Shots: 9-8 :nyi
2nd period: 2-0 :tbl Shots: 21-17 :tbl NOOOO FUCK TAVARES I NEED YOU BUDDY!!!!
3rd period: 2-2 (Ladd, Brassard) Shots: 29-29 HOLY FUCK BATMAN THE VET AND THE DEADLINE PICKUP!!!!!!!!!!!!! CMON BOYS FINISH THIS!!!
Overtime: 3-2 :tbl (Killorn) Shots: 32-31:tbl

NOOOOOOOO. Fuck. How do we lose 4 straight boys?! Not acceptable. I was expecting a 3rd round appearance and going out like that in the second round hurts. I'm not happy with the season. Not a bad season but definitely not up to standards in my opinion.

    Post-Season Key Statistics:
Brassard: 10 points in 11 games
Carlson: 10 points in 11 games
Dal Colle: 7 points in 11 games
Beauvillier: 5 points in 11 games
Tavares: 4 points in 11 games
Ladd: 4 points in 11 games

So if we're being blunt, Tavares had a horrible year. He was invisible in the post season and hurt for majority of the regular season so honestly I placing most of the blame on him and Ladd on that top line. We struggled to score and those two needed to be better. Our two new acquisitions did great and it's scary to think what would have happened without Brassard and that we will now most likely be letting him walk to free agency...

So we're at the draft and there's two things:

    1. Johnny Boychuk retired at age 35... Crazy how he's 87 and retiring at 35 but whatever. Our D core is stacked so we should be okay. :bos Adam McQuaid (79) decided to retire at age 32 so it could be worse? EA logic.
    2. Coyle dropped to 79 because he's a bitch of ice time. I don't wanna trade him until the start of the season because I want to see if we have a spot where he can be happy because honestly I like his stats and could be a great bottom 6 guy but of course he's listed as a 2nd liner :palm

    Pre-Draft:

So after plenty of thought, I decided to make a blockbuster trade on the draft floor...

    :tml Acquires Andrew Ladd (87), and a 2019 4th and 6th rounder
:nyi Acquires Travis Dermott (74, 22yrs old low top 6 TWD potential) and the 14th overall pick in the 2019 draft

So Ladd has never produced as much as I would like since I have arrived in New York other then that cup run but ever since he has been simply mediocre. He is now 34 and still has 5 more years left so I thought why not get rid of that contract now before he drops and keep the younger and imo better player in Brassard to replace him. Toronto was listed as a contender and a vet like Ladd could be exactly what they need to compete for a cup so it's not incredibly unrealistic. We got a good return as well.

    DRAFT:
14: Sean Bickell (med top 6 RW PWF) solid prospect in return for Ladd
20: Mats Lundstrom (med top 6 C TWF)
50: Kat Rally (low top 6 DFD)
80: Chad Booth (med top 9 RW SNP)
110: Cedric De Boer (med bottom 6 LW PWF)
130: Leo Krupp (med AHL top 6 GRN)
140: Nick Watson (low AHL top 2 TWD)
170: Robbie Burt (low AHL top 6 TWF)
183: Connor Dewar (low AHL top 6 C PLY)
200: Nickolas Donofrio (med AHL starter)

    Sorry for the delay boys...

    Resigned:
    Brassard (5.8m/4yrs)
    Dal Colle (5.3m/3yrs)
    Elie (900k/1yr)
    Quine (900k/3yrs)
    Dvorak (1.8m/3yrs)
    Various AHLers/Prospects

Released: Condon (79), McIlrath (78), Mayfield (77), Jooris (79) (all wanted 1-way deals or we didn't need them)

    Free agency:
So Drew Doughty (95) is a free agent and signed in Detroit... Also Charlie Coyle dropped to a 79 and according the activity feed he is demanding a trade...So I'm gonna act like that actually happening and move him right now.

    :col
    Acquires Charlie Coyle (79)
    :nyi Acquires a 2020 3rd round pick

So it sucks that Coyle is a bitch, but what can you do.

Free Agents Signed: Teemu Rissanen (76, 21yrs old med top 9 C GRN), Vic Bartley (81) (925k/1yr), Marcus Kruger (80) (925k/1yr)

So some new depth to replace what we lost.

    NEW CAPTAINS:

    Start of season trade:

    :edm Acquires Linus Soderstrom (82)
:nyi Acquires Chad Johnson (80) and a 2020 3rd rounder

    :van Acquires Chad Johnson (80)
    :nyi Acquires a 2020 7th rounder

So Torres is now an 82 and listed as a backup so unfortunately Soderstrom never progressed to be better then Halak (84) so we had to keep the better overall goalie. Going all year with two young 82 overall goalies would not be smart.

    YEAR 4 LINEUP:

    Dal Colle (87) - Tavares (93) - Strome (86)
    Brassard (87) - Barzal (87) - Nelson (86)
    Dvorak (84) - Beauvillier (84) - Bailey (82)
    Kruger (80) - Cizikas (82) - Sundstrom (82)
    Quine (80)

    Leddy (88) - Carlson (89)
    Hamonic (86) - Pulock (87)
    Hickey (83) - Wotherspoon (81)
    Bartley (80)

    Halak (84)
    Torres (82)

    Notes:
    - Sundstrom is 26yrs old and has med top 9 potential, he led the AHL in scoring last year
    - Everyone except Tavares in the top 6 is listed as second liners so they are all interchangeable. I decided to keep Strome and Tavares together and give Dal Colle the chance on that line to start, but literally everyone in the top 6 can play center or wing so depending on performance anyone can play top line with Tavares. We could end up seeing Brass-Tavares-Barzal and DC-Strome-Nelson for example if that works. I will see what works
    - Parker Wotherspoon is 22yrs old and has med top 6 potential
