Posting to follow. A complete overhaul in the team as all the young guns of the Isles are on the team now.
So we're at the trade deadline and have a 32-23-5 record, good enough for 69 points and third in our division. We are only in the playoffs by 3 points but we're only 1 points out of second in our division so are fate is in our own hands. I think I'm just gonna stand pat because honestly our GF, GA, PP% and PK% are all top half of the league so really there is no where I feel we need to improve. I could acquire a better goalie but honestly Halak has been good so. I'll look around the league but will probably not do anything.
So I decided to check free agency because sometimes there are some good players that don't get signed and Marc-Edouard Vlasic (88) was available for some reason. I really comtemplated signing him but I decided he is actually exactly what we could use. Goaltending and defence has been our weak spot this year and Vlasic is that shutdown defender that we miss with Boychuk now gone. Wotherspoon has played well but he is listed as a depth defenceman so he can be our 7th dman and Vlasic can play bottom pair with Hickey and if he gets pissed cause of ice time whatever. He'll get PK time as well.
Signed: Marc-Edouard Vlasic (88) (5m/1yr)
Leddy (88) - Carlson (89)
Hamonic (86) - Pulock (87)
Vlasic (88) - Hickey (83)
So at the end of year 4 we finished 40-29-13 o=good enough for 93 points and the first wild card spot in the east. Not a great year but considering we're a young team and have a 84 as our best goalie that's pretty solid.
Tavares: 80 points in 82 games
Strome: 57 points in 82 games
Brassard: 55 points in 80 games
Beauvillier: 47 points in 82 games
Dal Colle: 44 points in 82 games
Barzal: 42 points in 82 games
Dvorak: 35 points in 82 games
Carlson: 47 points in 82 games
Vlasic: 10 points and a +4 in 21 games
Halak: 32-20-7 with a 2.50 GAA and .914 SV%
Torres: 8-10-1 with a 2.16 GAA and a .927 SV%
So Dal Colle could have done better on that top line but decent production from everyone.
In other news:
Talbot (86) went 43-18-3 with a 1.98 GAA and .936 SV%
Laine (86) got 97 points in 82 games (led league by 13 points)
Galchenyuk (91) got 84 points in 82 games
Draisaitl (90) got 83 points in 82 games
Ehlers (89) got 82 points in 82 games
McDavid (94) got 77 points in 82 games
Kessel (90) got 78 points in 82 games
Crosby (96) got 74 points in 82 games
Puljujarvi (86) got 69 points in 80 games
Marner (89) got 53 points in 82 games
Matthews (89) got 44 points in 82 games
Garland (84) got 41 goals and 72 points in 82 games (rookie season)
Scherbak (86) got 68 points in 82 games (rookie season)
Next up Round 1 vs (48-27-7)
Wouldn't Vlasic overall drop since he's not a top 6 dman?
He might, but he hasn't yet so. He's getting top line PK as well and he's only listed as a top 4 not a top 2 so. I think it depends on the player because last year I played Boychuk (87) on bottom pair all year and he never dropped so.
Round 1 vs (48-27-7)
Game 1: 2-1 2OT win (Bailey (2OT winner), Tavares)
Game 2: 2-1 loss (Barzal)
Game 3: 1-0 win (Brassard)
Goalie duel?? Halak is a tank
Game 4: 2-1 win (Beauvillier, Nelson)
Game 5: 3-1 win (Brassard, Tavares, Hickey)
Holy shit 84 overall Jaro Halak. This guy is an absolute beast!! Only let in more then 1 goal ONCE in 5 games. He had a 0.92 GAA and .973 SV% in 5 games. Holy shit. Props to our d core as well solid series. Gonna need some more offense eventually but that will come.
Next up Round 2 vs (43-30-9)
Round 2 vs (43-30-9)
So Columbus has a shitty record but historically in EA simulations the shitty record teams can do serious damage in the playoffs so hopefully we can fend them off.
Game 1: 4-2 win (Brassard, Dvorak, Sundstrom, Tavares)
Game 2: 6-0 win (Sundstrom x2, Dvorak, Bailey, Hamonic, Strome)
Game 3: 3-0 loss
Travis Hamonic (86) is out for 1-2 games with a concussion so Wotherspoon (81) slots back in on defence...
Game 4: 3-2 OT loss (Tavares, Brassard)
Hamonic is back but Pulock is now out 2-4 games so Wotherspoon will stay in..
Game 5: 5-1 loss (Strome)
WTF BOYS. That's embarrassing..
NEW GAME 6 LINEUP:
Brassard (87) - Tavares (93) - Strome (87) (Brassard is getting a shot as a veteran)
Dal Colle (87) - Barzal (87) - Beauvillier (85) (this line played well together last year)
Dvorak (84) - Bailey (83) - Nelson (86) (Nelson hasn't done much)
Kruger (82) - Cizikas (82) - Sundstrom (82)
1st period: 2-1 (Barzal, Sundstrom) Shots: 14-6
2nd period: 3-1 (Dvorak) Shots: 24-17
3rd period: 3-1 Shots: 36-22
That's better. The kids stepped up now it's the top lines turn...
1st period: 1-0 (Leddy) Shots: 15-8
2nd period: 1-1 Shots: 22-21
CMON BOYS HUGE 3RD LETS GO
3rd period: 3-2 (Strome) Shots: 37-31
FFS BOYS We absolutely shit the bed in the 3rd period of game 7. Not acceptable. Columbus is not a good team we should have beat them!!! Ugh.
Key Playoff Stats:
Barzal: 7 points in 12 games
Strome: 7 points in 12 games
Brassard: 6 points in 12 games
Dal Colle: 5 points in 12 games
Dvorak: 5 points in 12 games
Beauvillier: 5 points in 12 games
Tavares: 5 points in 12 games
Sundstrom: 5 points in 12 games
Halak: 7-4 with a 1.53 GAA and .952 SV%
So Tavares and our 4th line rookie RW had the exact same point totals, so Tavares is gonna get the blame for this one because he is the captain and needed to lead our team way better than he did. I'm not blaming anyone individually except for him. That being said, all of our offense struggled and that was what killed us.
Acquires Frost (unsigned AHL potential player) and the 90th overall pick in the 2020 entry draft
Acquires the 80th overall pick in the 2020 entry draft
19: Boulton (med top 4 TWD)
49: Brule (med top 6 LW SNP)
79: Lindgren (med top 9 LW TWF)
80: Rally (med top 6 OFD)
88: Silfverberg (low top 6 LW TWF)
109: Lees (med top 9 C SNP)
139: Burns (low top 9 RW SNP)
169: Plante (low top 9 C PLY)
199: Hobbs (low bottom 6 LW GRN)
So pretty damn successful draft. All 9 players have NHL potential which is nuts. Crazy good draft class apparently.
Released: Marc-Edouard Vlasic (91) (couldn't afford him and he was a rental anyways)
Free agents signed: Kruger (75, med top 9 LW TWF 21yrs old), Battaglia (76, low top 6 TWD 20yrs old)
It was a crazy good free agent class as the following players signed elsewhere:
TJ Brodie (89)
Jake Muzzin (88)
Corey Crawford (87)
Justin Faulk (91)
Chris Kreider (86)
Johnny Gaudreau (90)
Sergei Bobrovsky (86)
Cody Ceci (85)
Marc-Edouard Vlasic (91)
Karl Alzner (85)
Ryan Johansen (89)
Start of season trades:
Acquires Johannesen (82, 23yrs old med top 6 TWD potential)
Acquires Filip Ahl (75, 23yrs old med top 9 LW PWF potential)
So Johannesen grew very well after we signed him off free agency but he simply had no spot and was too good for the AHL so I moved him to Ottawa where he is their 3rd best defenceman.
Acquires Collberg (74, 24yrs old low bottom 6 potential)
Acquires a 2021 6th rounder
Collberg had no spot on the AHL squad and hasn't progressed at all so.
YEAR 5 LINEUP:
Dal Colle (88) - Tavares (94) - Barzal (89)
Nelson (85) - Brassard (87) - Strome (85)
Dvorak (84) - Beauvillier (83) - Bailey (83)
Cizikas (82) - Kruger (81) - Sundstrom (81)
Leddy (88) - Carlson (89)
Pulock (87) - Hamonic (88)
Hickey (83) - Wotherspoon (82)
What is Torres's age and potential ?
21 years old med franchise potential
So its Feb.9th and we are 30-21-2 good enough for 62 points and 2nd in our division. We've been playing well but I want to make a small change as Quine and Pelech have been awful filling in for injuries this year so I need to replace them.
Acquires Adam Pelech (78)
Acquires a 2021 6th rounder
Free agents signed: Josh Manson (82, 1.5m/1yr) and Michael Ferland (80, 700k/1yr)
Separate names with a comma.
