So at the deadline we are 33-26-2 good enough for 68 points and tied for the last wild card spot. I want to improve our 4th line because they are all bad minuses and our penalty kill is 3rd last in the league so we need that to improve. Otherwise I think we're a pretty solid team that has potential in the playoffs.

:bos Acquires Sundstrom (82), Reichel (69, 22yrs old low bottom 6 potential) and a 2021 3rd round draft pick
:nyi Acquires Patrice Bergeron (84) (2m retained)

So this deal was risky but Bergeron is exactly what this team could use. His 5 star defensive category is perfect for the penalty kill and hopefully can fix our issue there. Its risky because he still has 2 years left and were paying him just under 5m, but he's 35 so im banking on him retiring after this year and even if he doesn't we should be fine for next season as cap has never really been an issue on this team.

    NEW LINEUP:
    Dal Colle (88) - Tavares (95) - Barzal (89)
    Nelson (85) - Brassard (87) - Strome (85)
    Dvorak (84) - Bergeron (84) - Beauvillier (83)
    Cizikas (82) - Kruger (81) - Bailey (83)
    Ferland (80) - Quine (79)

    Leddy (88) - Carlson (89)
    Pulock (87) - Hamonic (88)
    Hickey (83) - Wotherspoon (82)
    Manson (82)

    Torres (87)
    Halak (83)

How old is Bergeron? His stats seem low

So at the end of the year we finished 42-37-3 good enough for 87 points and 6th place in our division. We tanked hard going 3-6-1 in our final 10 games and missed the playoffs. SUPER disappointing to say the least. I am not happy with this result as we were a better team then that.

    Key Statistics:
Tavares: 73 points in 77 games
Brassard: 60 points in 82 games
Barzal: 56 points in 82 games
Dal Colle: 56 points in 82 games
Strome: 50 points in 82 games
Carlson: 37 points in 60 games
    Torres: went 39-27-0 with a 2.24 GAA and 0.926 SV%
    Halak: went 4-10 with a 3.29 GAA and .888 SV% :palm

Halak was awful so hopefully he retires because we're definitely not bringing him back, but I guess the only bright spot of this season was the fact that Torres looks like the real deal so at least we have that franchise goalie in place.

So neither Bergeron or Halak retired so we will have to decide what to do with them some time this summer. Ill probably trade Halak at the draft and probably keep Bergeron but we will see.

    :ott Acquires Jaroslav Halak (79)
    :nyi Acquires a 2021 5th rounder

So thank you to Halak for that unbelievable cup victory a few years ago but you just had a horrible season so it was time to move on. He is the highest rated goalie in the Sens organization so hopefully he'll get some playing time there.

    Draft:
12: Packard (med top 6 RW SNP)
    42: Goldmann (med starter)
    102: Briere (med top 9 C PWF)
122: Viklund (med top 6 DFD)
132: Savage (med bottom 6 RW PLY)
151: Nabokov (low bottom 6 LW SNP)
    162: Fasth (med 7th TWD)
166: Ramsay (low top 6 TWD)
180: Rourke (med bottom 6 LW GRN)
192: Malkin (med AHL top 6 LW PWF)

    Resigned:
    Torres (6.5m/3yrs)
    Nelson (4.5m/2yrs)
    Kruger (900k/1yr)
    Bailey (1.6m/3yrs)
    Meloche (900k/1yr)

Released: Cizikas (81, was awful last year and has been replaced by younger players), Ferland (78), Manson (76)

    :cal Acquires Thomas Hickey (83)
:nyi Acquires Rasmus Andersson (81, 24yrs old med top 4 potential OFD)

    :min Acquires Alan Quine (79)
    :nyi Acquires a 2022 6th rounder

So the Hickey deal was a cap dump/getting younger move because we needed the cap space to sign Wotherspoon (2.3m/3yrs) and by swapping Hickey and Andersson we gain 1.7m in cap so it had to be done. Also Quine had to go because his 925k against our cap needed to go plus he sucked last year.

Free agents signed: Ken Van Riemsdyk (78, 21yrs old med top 9 C PLY potential) Aittokallio (81, med starter potential 22yrs old) Baillie (81, 25yrs old 775k/1yr)

    Start of season:

So last year :van drafted the next Crosby first overall as they picked Benjamin Purinton 1st overall and he is a 92 overall center playmaker out of the draft with med franchise potential! He is only 1 overall lower then McDavid straight out of the draft....we will definitely need to watch out for this kid.

    TRADES:
:win Acquires Brock Nelson (85), Moller (71, 22yrs old bottom 6 potential) and Fasth (unsigned 7th D potential player)
    :nyi Acquire Nic Petan (84)

So Ive honestly been wanting to trade Nelson for a long time. He's never really fit into our lineup other then the fact that he would kill penalties for us but even at that our PK sucked last year so I thought we should finally pull the trigger and shake things up a bit. Nelson was also listed as a 2nd liner which really limited our options upfront as he is more of third liner. As for Petan, he has a filthy shot so alongside Strome and Brass he should hopefully contribute way more then Nelson. This also is semi realistic because Winnipeg had so many young offensive players it would make sense that they would deal one of their weaker ones for a more defensive player, plus two prospects.

    :ott Acquires Remi Elie (78)
    :nyi Acquires a 2022 5th round pick

So Elie was still an RFA holding out for a 1-way deal which I'm not gonna give him plus he's 25 so he's not gonna get any better then an 80 so its not worth it for us.

    :ana Acquires Josh Ho-Sang (79)
    :nyi Acquires a 2022 4th round pick

Ho-Sang was not progressing so I moved him to a team where he should play in the NHL so maybe he'll grow.

So its the trade deadline and we are 43-15-3 good enough for 89 points and 1st in the league. Wow we are absolutely killing it this year. Tavares has even missed some time due to injury but it hasn't mattered as we just keep winning. I may make a move at the deadline but we have like no cap so we will see.

:det Acquires Marcus Kruger (80) and Briere (72, 20yrs old med top 9 potential)
:nyi Acquires Justin Abdelkader (85, 35yrs old, 50% of 4m salary retained)

So I realized I need a cup this year. Brassard, Hamonic, Carlson, and Leddy are all getting older and with our team so good now I need to try to push them over the edge. Bergeron has dropped to an 81 so we needed a solid 3rd liner and Abdelkader fits the bill perfectly. Kruger was being replaced by Bergeron as the 4th line center so he was expendable.

    NEW LINEUP:
    Dal Colle (88) - Tavares (94) - Barzal (90)
    Petan (85) - Brassard (87) - Strome (85)
    Dvorak (84) - Beauvillier (83) - Abdelkader (84)
    Bailey (83) - Bergeron (81) - Rissanen (81)
    Baillie (81)

Defense and goalie have not changed.

So at the end of the season we finished 60-19-3 good enough for 123 points and the presidents trophy as we were the best team by 19 points!! Unreal regular season, one of the best I've ever had in GM mode. We scored almost 4 goals per game so im excited to see the stats....

    Key Statistics:
Tavares: 91 points in 74 games
Dal Colle: 75 points in 82 games
Barzal: 34 goals and 71 points in 82 games
Brassard: 63 points in 82 games
Strome: 58 points in 82 games
Carlson: 57 points in 82 games
Petan: 52 points in 82 games
Dvorak: 38 points in 82 games
Rissanen: 30 points in 78 games (fourth liner)
    Torres: went 50-14-0 with a 2.17 GAA and .924 SV%
    Aittokallio: went 10-5-0 with a 2.58 GAA and .912 SV%

So obviously everybody had unreal years. Tavares was insane as he led the league in points even with missing 8 games, and then Barzal and Dal Colle finally busted out and are now truely elite NHLers as well. The second line killed it also so the Petan deal seemed to work wonders. Even all our D and bottom 6 put up great point totals so it was overall an amazing year.

    Round 1 vs :ott (43-35-4)

If we lose to a team like this....

Game 1: 4-3 OT win (Hamonic (OT winner), Tavares, Barzal, Dvorak)
We scored 4 straight to win after an awful start...
Game 2: 4-2 win (Strome x2, Dvorak, Beauvillier)
Game 3: 5-2 win (Bergeron x2, Tavares x2, Dal Colle)
Game 4: 3-2 OT win (Barzal (OT winner), Bailey, Dal Colle)

Well it wasn't that dominant, but a sweep is a sweep. On to round 2.

    Round 2 vs :cbj (43-23-16)

    Game 1: 3-2 win (Barzal x2, Abdelkader)
    Game 2: 3-1 loss (Strome)
Korpisalo (90) is really good so Torres (92) needs to out duel him...
Game 3: 3-0 win (Dvorak, Dal Colle, Barzal)
Right on cue Torres comes up with a 36 save shutout and steals us that one
Game 4: 4-0 win (Brassard, Dal Colle, Beauvillier, Tavares)
We only allowed 14 shots in a real defensive game it seems
Game 5: 1-0 OT win (Abdelkader)

So wow I call out Torres and he answers with 3 straight shutouts...this kid is the real deal.
