Very sad news in the sports world. Craig Sager, the legendary sideline reporter and NBA announcer whose years-long battle with acute myeloid leukemia inspired countless fans and basketball lovers, passed away Thursday according to Turner Sports. He was 65 years old.

Sager was diagnosed with leukemia in 2014, and went through multiple courses of treatment, including chemotherapy and stem cell transplants, to try to beat back the illness. After missing nearly a year, he was cleared to return to television in March of 2015, only to see the illness return, forcing him to once again step away from his duties.

ESPN presented Sager with the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at the 2016 ESPYs.

Born June 29, 1951, in Illinois, Sager graduated from Northwestern University in 1973 with a degree in speech. He later worked for CNN, handling the network's first live remote report from the 1980 baseball playoffs. He co-anchored "CNN Sports Tonight" and anchored "College Football Scoreboard" in the 1980s. Although Sager has covered a wide variety of events, including college football, the NFL, the World Series, the Goodwill Games, the Pan Am Games, World Cup soccer, golf, tennis, and the Winter and Summer Olympics, Sager's home was the NBA.

Really sad day for not only basketball fans but also sports fans in general! I loved the suits that he would wear and when Shaq called his suit horrawful, I always looked forward too seeing what type of suit he would wear next.
He had a very long battle with cancer but at least he is in a better place...
    Rip Craig Sager!

Man we have lost so many iconic people this year. Arnold Palmer, Prince, Muhammed Ali and yesterday Alan Thicke and now today with Craig Sager. He really is a fighter and has the respect of everyone who watched him and as well as peers at TNT and in the NBA, as he's the best sideline reporter in the NBA and maybe in all of sports. And the true innovator of fancy and wild suits, Don is just a bootleg version him. RIP Craig Sager.
